Foreign Exchange

Story, Building has published, Foreign Exchange, Conversations on Architecture Here and Now. This is the first publication from Ireland’s newest platform for the critical discussion of architecture. The book is edited by Livia Hurley and Emmett Scanlon and is available to buy online and instore from The Library Project, Dublin.

The book was launched on the occasion of the end of year show at UCD School of Architecture, Dublin. The book was funded by the Embassy of Switzerland in Ireland, UCD and Story, Building.

Foreign Exchange, the book, responds to the online conversation series which took place during one of the most turbulent periods in education, research, and practice in architecture from November 2020 to September 2021.

Across four conversations, architects Maria Conen, Elli Mosayebi, Christian Sumi and Catherine Gay Menzel from Switzerland shared work on topics such as housing, public space, design for climate, material culture and the rural landscape. They were joined in conversation with architects Yvonne Farrell, Jonathan Sergison, Jeffrey Bolhuis and David Leech together with Annie Fletcher (Irish Museum of Modern Art), Lynn Scarf (National Museum of Ireland), Maureen Kennelly (Arts Council), and Emma-Lucy O Brien (Visual), four cultural leaders from Ireland.

Writers include Alex Curtis, Marwa El Mubark, Michael K. Hayes, Gary Hamilton. Alice Bowler, Philip Comerford, Livia Hurley and Emmett Scanlon. The Assistant editor is Luke Corish.
