risinghome is a new initiative at the School of Architecture Planning and Environmental Policy. It is a research and design studio based in the first year of the MArch Part II program, co-ordinated by Emmett Scanlon and Orla Murphy.
To mark the end of the first semester studio, a paper was prepared which documented the work of the students participating in the course. The students also made an exhibition of the work responses to which were invited from Shelley McNamara (Grafton Architects) and Lorcan Sirr on the morning of the inaugural UCD Festival. Thanks to all the students who worked to put the exhibition together, to our sponsors Ibstock Brick – Official, and to the UCD Festival for providing great support on the day for the exhibition.
Orla Murphy curated a seminar on the topic of housing following the exhibition opening which saw speakers give short position papers on what we might now do to address the housing crisis. Speakers included Fr. Peter McVerry, Lorcan Sirr, Orla Hegarty and Derek Tynan.
